ASHWAGANDHA CAPSULE REVIEW BY DARCY - BIRCHER BAR FOUNDER & OWNER

    What I Like:

Flavour - there’s a reason Ashwagandha is known as “the smell of the horse”, it is a very strong tasting herb with a flavour similar to (you guessed it) a sweaty horse. Capsules are a great way to get all the health benefits of Ashwagandha without the funky taste.

Convenience - always on the go? No time in the mornings to jazz up your herbs? These are so quick and easy, simply swallow one capsule with a swig of water and you’re good to go.

Sourcing and Packaging - as with all SuperFeast products, these capsules are sourced using the ancient Di Dao philosophy of harvesting herbs from their spiritual homeland, and are packaged in the same Miron glass you know and love to preserve the potent quality of the herbs, and prevent any unwanted spills!

What I Think Could Be Improved:

Something to consider - each capsule is a complete daily dose of Ashwagandha, so there is no way to “ease yourself in”. Ashwagandha can also negatively impact someone taking thyroid medications or who has low blood sugar. If you’re unsure of whether Ashwagandha is right for you, you should check with your doctor first.

    In Summary:

    Pros:

    • A powerful restorative adaptogen with multiple health benefits
    • Capsulated for easy consumption
    • Sourced and sold by one of the most ethically minded companies in the business

    Cons:

    • Can’t start with a smaller dose to ease yourself in
    • Could negatively interact with thyroid medications or people with low blood sugar

    What Goes Into Ashwagandha Capsules:

SuperFeast’s Ashwagandha capsules have been a long time coming, but why is that?

At SuperFeast they take every step necessary to ensure their products are of the highest quality, potency and integrity, so it was super important to them to get their capsules just right.

Unfortunately, it’s somewhat impossible to make a capsule without using an excipient, however, the good news is that SuperFeast only uses excipients that work in harmony with the body, which won’t cause harm to health or wellbeing, and only ever the tiniest amount required.

    Each capsule contains:

Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha); Phyllostachys nigra (bamboo extract); Ipomoea batatas (organic sweet potato); vegetable capsules (purified water, hypromellose)

    Ashwagandha Root and powder

    Ashwagandha Health Benefits:

Ashwagandha is a highly revered tonic herb, used for centuries to promote restorative sleep, calm the mind and support a healthy stress response in the body.

    1.) Reduces stress and anxiety:

Traditionally this has been the key reason for taking Ashwagandha and, as a result, there are a lot of studies into its anti-stress properties. It’s proven to reduce cortisol levels in the body, which is a stress hormone released by the adrenal glands, encourage deep sleep and balance the blood sugar.

One study of chronically stressed adults saw a 30% reduction in cortisol amongst those who took the highest dosage after 60 days.

    2.) Balances the hormonal system:

If you’re experiencing any endocrine system disturbances, stress-induced insomnia or iron deficiency then this is the herb for you. Ashwagandha is a herbal powerhouse in down-regulating the stress response and enhancing reproductive potency.

Ashwagandha appears to promote testicular health and overall fertility for men, one study of 75 infertile men showed a marked improvement in the count and health of their sperm after taking Withania Somnifera.

We have a great guide available for further reading on exactly how ashwagandha affects testosterone.

    3.) Reduces inflammation:

Ashwagandha has powerful anti-inflammatory properties and can therefore be beneficial for people suffering from joint issues such as rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. One study of 125 people with joint pain showed a significant improvement in joint pain after just 7 weeks.

There have also been several studies conducted that suggest Ashwagandha may have anti-cancer properties. Ashwagandha contains withaferin, a compound known to help induce apoptosis, a form of programmed cell death that eliminates potentially cancerous and virus-infected cells.

Multiple animal studies have shown that withaferin may help treat several types of cancer, including breast, lung and ovarian cancer, with one study on mice showing a 70-80% reduction in tumour growth when taking withaferin alone or in combination with another anti-cancer drug. The treatment also prevented the spread of cancer to other organs.

While there is no evidence as yet to suggest Ashwagandha would have a similar effect in humans, current research is definitely encouraging!

    How To Take Ashwagandha Capsules:

SuperFeast has made ancient herbs more accessible than ever! These quick and easy capsules are ideal if you want to get all the medicinal benefits of mushrooms but can’t stomach the flavour of potent, sharp herbs.

    Key Product Details:

    Dosage Suggestion:

SuperFeast recommends taking one capsule daily, or as directed by your health practitioner.

    Ingredients:

Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha), Phyllostachys nigra (bamboo extract), Ipomoea batatas (organic sweet potato), purified water, hypromellose (vegetable capsules).

As with all SuperFeast products, all ingredients are sourced following the Di Dao philosophy before then being produced in Australia.

    Safety:

While this potent product has been independently tested and certified for consumption and is safe for most people, it is always recommended to talk to your doctor or healthcare provider before starting new supplements. Always remember to read the label and directions carefully before use and do not take more than the recommended amount in 24 hours.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it is important to consult with your doctor or healthcare provider before taking SuperFeast Ashwagandha capsules. Any supplements you ingest while pregnant or breastfeeding could pass to the baby through the blood or mother’s milk, so care should be taken.

Ashwagandha can negatively impact someone taking thyroid medications or who has low blood sugar. You should not take this supplement if either of these applies to you unless under strict medical supervision.

It's also a good idea to take a break from Ashwagandha from time to time.

    FAQs:

Why is an excipient used in SuperFeasts Ashwagandha capsules?:

SuperFeast prides themselves on the high-potency of their products. Unfortunately, making a capsule without using an excipient is pretty much impossible! SuperFeast use as little “filler” as possible, making sure that they only use products that work with the body and won’t have a detrimental impact on health or wellbeing.

How many capsules do I get?:

Each miron glass jar contains 120 capsules, that’s a 4 month supply!

    When will I see results?:

There is no cut and dry answer to this question as everybody is unique. Some people may feel benefits immediately while for others it may take a couple of weeks to a month before they feel the shifts within their body. The most important thing with adaptogenic herbs is longevity and consistency as their potent medicinal benefits accumulate over time. SuperFeast recommends taking one or more of their products regularly for at least 30-100 days to really allow them to unfold in your system.

    Alternatives:

    1.) SuperFeast Ashwagandha Powder

While most find the taste of Ashwagandha hard to stomach, others love it! As a powder, it can be stirred into hot and cold drinks, broths and meals. Personally, I like to add something a little sweet to my Ashwagandha tea, some honey or sugar, or you could add aromatics like vanilla, cinnamon, turmeric... basically make chai! Delicious, right?
