Resveratrol is a naturally occurring compound found in various plants, particularly in the skin of red grapes, berries, and peanuts. Unless you live under a rock, Resveratrol has gained widespread attention and popularity for its potential health and longevity benefits made famous by longevity experts — Dr David Sinclair and Dr Andrew Huberman.Â
Resveratrol was found to have great health benefits in 1969 when the compound was discovered in the roots of Polygonum cuspidatum, a traditional Chinese and Japanese medicinal plant, and in the skin of grapes. It gained international attention in 1992, following the publication of research on the "French Paradox", the observation that French people have a relatively low incidence of heart disease despite a diet high in saturated fats. It was found that it was partly attributed to the consumption of red wine, which contains resveratrol.
In 2003, Dr David Sinclair and colleagues at Harvard University suggested that resveratrol could activate the SIRT1 gene (or the sirtuins), proteins linked to playing a role in aging and longevity. This study significantly boosted interest in resveratrol as a potential anti-aging compound. Dr Sinclair takes about 1g a day in the morning with some yoghurt and has done so since 2003.
Personally, I think Dr Sinclair looks very good for his age. Check our article on Dr Sinclair Supplements where we did a breakdown of the supplements he takes.Â
Reservatrol BenefitsÂ
It has been shown in numerous studies that resveratrol's potential benefits for heart health, including its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, and its ability to improve endothelial function and reduce the risk of atherosclerosis — the thickening or hardening of arteries. Resveratrol has also been studied for its potential anti-cancer properties. Some research suggests it may inhibit cancer cell growth and proliferation, though more studies are needed to confirm its efficacy in humans.
There is also research that has suggested that resveratrol may have neuroprotective effects, potentially reducing the risk of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Finally, resveratrol may also improve insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism, which could be beneficial for individuals with type 2 diabetes or metabolic syndrome.
I wanted to gain some of these wonderful health benefits and thus will take you through my own experience with Teelixir's resveratrol after having used it over the past few months. I'll run you through all of the key details, processes, uses and science behind it. Let's go!
TEELIXIR'S REAL RESVERATROL - A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW:
A little background about Teelixir. The company started in 2015 and was one of the first Australian companies to offer certified organic medicinal mushrooms, along with premium adaptogens, and superfood blends to boost your health and performance.
It is also one of the most reputable Australian health companies — very popular among naturopaths. Our good friend, Gina Burn, who is a popular Australian naturopath was pleasantly surprised that Teelixir offered a "single ingredient" product in powdered form — meaning there were no nasties and that it was 100% pure resveratrol — a very unique offering.Â
A Quick Summary:
Pros: |
Cons: |
Made in Australia — Best winery region using organic grapes |
Needs to be combined with fat-soluble for better absorption |
Powder extract — easy to mix with other foods or add to smoothies/drinks |
Not a pill, some people prefer tablet form vs powdered form |
Vegan and paleo-friendly and free from sugars |
Once opened, it needs to be stored carefully as easily oxidised |
What I Like About It:
1.) High Quality Powder ExtractÂ
I really like the ease of taking Teelixir's resveratrol in powder extract form. Knowing it is 100% certified organic red grape skin and seed (Vitis Vinifera) gives me confidence. I enjoy taking it in the mornings on my breakfast yoghurts, smoothies, and green powder drinks. Just 1/2 a teaspoon of this powerful natural antioxidant and I'm good to go! Make sure to add it with some sort of fats like seeds or nuts or yoghurt as resveratrol is best absorbed with good fats.
2.) Made in Australia's premium wineriesÂ
3.) Scientific storage method
What I love about Teelixir's way of storing resveratrol powder is that it has several key advantages. The black jar effectively blocks out harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays, which can degrade resveratrol and reduce its potency. This protection ensures the powder maintains its effectiveness and freshness over time, extending its shelf life by minimising the risk of oxidation and environmental damage. The jar is light, durable, 100% recyclable and reusable, aligning with eco-friendly practices.Â
4.) Teelixir HighlightsÂ
Some of the company highlights include:
- Free shipping available for over $100 spendÂ
- 30-day hassle-free returnsÂ
- Great customer service
- Gold standard heavy metal testing
What I Think Could Be Improved:
It's hard to fault Teelxir's 50g Real Resveratrol. I truly believe it's one of the best value and most useful resveratrol supplements on the market — and I've tried a lot.Â
I noticed some of my old injury inflammation going away, and I generally felt my energy improving and some of my brain fog fading and clearing up.Â
Additionally, the powder is easy to use, I was starting to get tablet/pill exhaustion, and this is a food supplement I can add to my breakfast. I follow the David Sinclair method of consumption by sprinkling on my breakfast with some yoghurt or blending it in my berry smoothies in the mornings. It easy to use every day and great for travels if I want to keep up with my longevity routine.
IS TEELIXIR'S REAL RESVERATROL 50G MADE FROM ORGANIC AUSTRALIAN GRAPES?Â
Teelixir's Real Resveratrol powder is made from Australia's finest organic wine grapes, sourced from the premium Australian wine regions. Australia is renowned for producing world-class wines made with the highest ethical and sustainable standards.
I love that this product is vegan-friendly, sugar-free, paleo-friendly and that the grapes are 100% certified organic. The cleanest resveratrol on the market you can get, I believe.Â
The taste is similar to dried grapes or dried berries minus the sweetness. If you've ever peeled the skin of a grape and chewed on it that's exactly what is tastes like. It has a grape fruitiness scent which goes very well with smoothies.Â
Teelixir is known for its dedication to creating the finest medicinal mushroom products and has expanded to different superfoods and beverages. This has led them to be favoured by the best Australian nutritionists and naturopaths. Indeed, some of our naturopath friends pick Teelixir as their go-to longevity product.Â
WHAT ARE THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF TEELIXIR's REAL RESVERATROL?
I have listed the key potential benefits of Resveratrol that I find most interesting - and are also supported by credible scientific studies and sources:
1.) Turning on your Longevity Gene
Longevity expert, Dr David Sinclair explains that when we undergo stress as humans, it helps us live longer and turn on the longevity genes. In fact, plants that have undergone stress also turn on their longevity genes. The act of this stress produces beneficial compounds — this is called hormesis, "a process in which exposure to a low dose of a chemical agent or environmental factor that is damaging at higher doses induces an adaptive beneficial effect on the cell or organism". These molecules not only act as antioxidants but also activate longevity pathways in our bodies, including sirtuins, mTOR, and AMPK. If you are into your science and want to dig deeper, you can read about more about these biochemical pathways here.
Resveratrol, found in red wine, is a prime example of a compound produced by stressed plants. Dr Sinclair explains that resveratrol is produced when grapes are stressed, such as when they're exposed to fungus or dehydration. When we consume these stressed plants, it tricks our bodies into thinking there might be adversity or a food shortage, activating cellular protective mechanisms that could contribute to increased longevity.
Sinclair recommends focusing on plant foods rich in polyphenols, such as berries, red wine, matcha, olives (and olive oil), beans, and vegetables like artichokes, chicory, red onion, and spinach. Indeed, by taking Teelixir's Resveratrol powder, you are directly ingesting the active polyphenolic compound that is found in those foods — thereby turning on your longevity genes.
2.) Heart Health Protection
Resveratrol exhibits multiple cardioprotective effects, including reducing oxidative stress and inflammation, improving cardiac function, protecting against damage to heart tissue from lack of oxygen, and preventing death of the heart muscle tissue "cardiac apoptosis" during a heart attack. These benefits are mediated through various molecular pathways, making resveratrol a promising compound for enhancing heart health.
Many studies have shown that Resveratrol has demonstrated potential in reducing inflammation, lowering LDL (bad) cholesterol, and preventing blood clots, which can help protect against heart disease. It does this by increasing the production of nitric oxide, a molecule that helps blood vessels dilate and improves blood flow. Thereby enhancing the function of the endothelium, which is the inner lining of blood vessels, hence reducing the risk of atherosclerosis (the buildup of fats, cholesterol and other substances in and on the artery walls).Â
3.) Anti-cancer EffectsÂ
In some pre-clinical animal studies, resveratrol exhibits anti-cancer properties by modulating multiple cellular mechanisms and signalling pathways, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-proliferative activities.  It has shown effectiveness in various types of cancers and the data available is promising to further develop to support its potential use in human cancers.
Some of the more prominent ones include the following:Â
-
Colorectal and Lung Cancer: Resveratrol has been shown to inhibit the growth of these cancer cells by inducing cell cycle arrest and promoting apoptosis (cell death). By reducing oxidative stress and inflammation, resveratrol can create an environment less conducive to cancer development and progression. Resveratrol can reduce the ability of colorectal and lung cancer cells to invade and metastasize, potentially limiting the spread of the disease.
- Breast Cancer:Â Some breast cancers are hormone-sensitive and grow in response to estrogen. Resveratrol acts as a phytoestrogen, which can modulate estrogen receptor activity and inhibit the growth of hormone-dependent breast cancer cells. Similar to its effects on colorectal and lung cancer, resveratrol can induce apoptosis in breast cancer cells through various pathways. Resveratrol can prevent the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) that tumours need to grow and spread, thereby limiting the growth of breast cancer.
As mentioned, while human studies are more limited, some clinical trials and epidemiological studies suggest that dietary intake of resveratrol-rich foods or supplements may be associated with a reduced risk of certain cancers.
4.) Brain Health & Alzheimers
Resveratrol has also garnered significant interest for its potential benefits on brain health. This compound is believed to offer neuroprotective effects, improve cognitive function, and modulate various biomarkers associated with neurological diseases.Â
A phase II clinical trial published in Neurology examined the effects of resveratrol on biomarkers and cognition in patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease. The study found that resveratrol was safe and well-tolerated and suggested potential benefits in slowing cognitive decline.
In another study, it was shown that resveratrol was found to enhance cognitive function in various animal models of Alzheimer's disease.Â
Check out this YouTube clip from David Sinclair which I found really interesting and see what you think.
HOW TO BEST USE IT?
Taking Teelixir's Real Resveratrol is very simple - the most convenient way is to take 1g with a fat component for maximum absorption. This could be yoghurt or a good quality Olive Oil. I like to put it in my morning smoothies with some berries. The taste is very pleasant which is similar to eating grapes in flavour.Â
Due to its grape flavour, I like to take it with some Kombucha as a daily supplement to increase antioxidant properties in my body. Overall, I feel my skin, energy and brain feel clearer.Â

THE BEST ALTERNATIVES & COMPLEMENTS:
If you're interested in exploring some other options to Teelixir's Real Resveratrol either as an alternative or complement to take it with - these are some of the other products I'd recommend checking out:Â
1.)Momentous ResveratrolÂ
Momentous Resveratrol has 450mg of resveratrol in each jar (30 servings). Momentous is an amazing company and is known to produce the highest quality of products for performance — and their resveratrol capsule form product is no different. Following the David Sinclair longevity theory, the product is in a trans-resveratrol form — which is described as more bioavailable and exhibits stronger stability, and biological activity, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cardioprotective effects. It is marketed as improving cardiovascular health, and brain function, and reducing inflammation.
2.)SuperFeast Astragalus
SuperFeast is another impressive Australian manufacturer and their astragalus powder extract is exceptional. Astragalus is recognised as one of the most potent herbs in Traditional Chinese Medicine and SuperFeast have produced an excellent and easy-to-take 'Di Tao' version. Specifically, Astragalus has been used for centuries in Chinese medicine to boost “Wei Qi” — a protective layer of energy just under the skin that shields against disease and pathogens.
Being Australian-Chinese heritage, I use this regularly in my cooking when making Chinese soups. Whenever I feel low in energy and when I need to build up my "Chi" (or Qi) I would take a few astragalus roots to boil into my soups.Â

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the downside of resveratrol?
Resveratrol, while beneficial, could for some people cause gastrointestinal problems when taken at high doses (2.5-5g) — causing symptoms such as nausea and diarrhea.
Bioavailability is a downside as there is limited human studies on this, but it is recommended that consuming resveratrol with food or a fatty component will help with its absorption in the body. By doing so you can mimic the "French Paradox" where red wine is consumed with a meal that would ideally contain good fats and other polyphenols present in plant-based foods.Â
Is resveratrol hard on the liver?
Some clinical trials suggest resveratrol can improve liver enzymes and histological features in patients with NAFLD (Non-Alcholic Fatty Liver Disease). In fact, in some animal models and some human studies, resveratrol has been shown to reduce liver inflammation, oxidative stress, and fibrosis.
However, like all types of vitamins and medications high doses of resveratrol (and like all types of medicinal compounds) it may cause liver toxicity. This has been observed in some animal studies where very high doses led to liver damage. Therefore, it is always best to check with your health professional for your personal circumstances.Â
What should I not take resveratrol with?
Does resveratrol actually work?
Does resveratrol burn belly fat?Â
Some studies indicate that resveratrol can improve metabolic health by enhancing insulin sensitivity, reducing inflammation, and improving lipid profiles. One study conducted 30 days of supplementation of resveratrol which resulted in metabolic changes in the patients mimicking the effects of caloric restriction. These changes can potentially contribute to weight loss and fat reduction, including belly fat.
While resveratrol shows potential in improving metabolic health and reducing fat accumulation, including belly fat, it should only be applied as a broader 'weight loss' strategy that includes a healthy diet and regular exercise.Â
FINAL THOUGHTS
Teelixir Real Resveratrol has been in my daily routine for the last couple of months.Â
I like that its Australian made and grown, and that the grapes are from one of the best wineries in Australia.
More importantly, as I have a regular supplement routine, I appreciate that Teelixir offers resveratrol in a powder form so that I can fully utilise the product and my health routine easily in my breakfast.
It's also in the similar form that David Sinclair takes — knowing that I can follow his scientific protocol more easily and feeling assured that it is backed by science and by one of the leading experts and doctors in the field of longevity and anti-aging.
