Kidney & Adrenal Tonic

SuperFeast Jing REVIEW BY DARCY - BIRCHER BAR FOUNDER & OWNER:

What I Like:

Anxiety & Stress reduction - I think we can probably all relate to times where we've been a bit over-worked, anxious and stressed. For me, Jing has a been a great one to help bounce back from periods where I've been 'burning the candle at both ends' ... and probably in the middle too.

After a few weeks of using it consistently, along with reducing my stimulant intake, I definitely notice elevated and more consistent energy. Not the lovable peaks and troughs of our old friend caffeine, but a more reliable and level kind of stamina

I often use it in smoothies and tonic teas without dropping my morning coffee, but definitely notice a more pronounced effect when I quit the coffee for a bit and focus on really restoring the adrenals. Combine it with a consistent yoga/meditation practice or any other stress-reducing relaxation activities and you'll be feeling better than what you remember is possible.

The Taste - Jing has a noticeably bitter flavour profile which I love. I've posted a couple of my favourite recipes below (straight from Mason himself), but it's as easy as honey (or maple) & hot water if you want a quick and easy tonic tea.

Company Values and Service - As with anything we review, we believe the product can only be as good as the people that make it - and we love SuperFeast. Having dealt with these guys for years now and with a front-row seat to their operation, I am more than happy to recommend them.

As a great family-owned business with impeccable morals and customer support like no other brand I've seen, they are definitely worth considering for your medicinal mushroom and tonic herb needs.

What I Think Could Be Improved:

Not so much an improvement as something to consider - given that it is a blend of six different Taoist herbs, none of them are present at the same potency levels that you'll find in a single herb powder extract.

This is a fantastic foundational energy tonic, but if you're after the highly specific benefits of a particular herb present in this blend, I'd recommend buying it as a single extract for maximum potency.

What is Jing?:

Jing is one of the Three Treasures in Taoist philosophy (Jing, Qi and Shen) is referred to as the primordial 'essence' residing in our Kidneys that supplies the core energy, power and stamina that allows us to experience superior physical health.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine principles, we are born with a fixed amount of Jing which can be increased through certain foods, herbs and stimulation (exercise, yoga etc.) and also depleted by everyday activities such being overworked, stress, illness and substance abuse.

Jing is believed to be stored in the Kidneys and such, is essential for good kidney health, adrenal support and physical attributes  such as skin, hair and teeth (read more about it here)

When cultivated, it strengthens the kidneys and gives us an abundance of the energy that is the foundation of many functions within the body and its various systems, especially the hormones. When we experience exhaustion and weakness in the body, it is a sign that our jing is being depleted - burning jing leads to super speedy ageing and deterioration of the body.

FAQs:

What is a dual extract?:

When herbs are extracted from plant material this is generally done using a solvent such as water or alcohol. Each method is beneficial, alcohol is used to draw out the fat-soluble components of the herbs, such as triterpenoids while water is used to obtain the herbs immune-boosting polysaccharides. Some herbs contain both fat and water-soluble constituents, and that's where dual extract comes in! Here, SuperFeast use both water and alcohol to acquire the herb’s full medicinal profile.

Why use the CS-4 cultivated strain of cordyceps?:

Wild cordyceps (sinensis) are rare and extremely expensive to source, leading to the Chinese developing a cordyceps mycelium (CS-4) which they now grow in liquid fermentation tanks. Several years of clinical trials have shown that CS-4 acts medicinally in the same way as wild-harvested Cordyceps, but is much more accessible.

How long will it take to see results?:

There is no cut and dry answer for this question as every body is unique. Some people may feel benefits immediately while for others it may take a couple of weeks to a month before they feel the shifts within their body. The most important thing with medicinal mushrooms is longevity and consistency as their potent medicinal benefits accumulate over time. SuperFeast recommend taking one or more of their products regularly for at least 30-100 days to really allow them to unfold in your system.

Alternatives:

If you've tried Jing and didn't like it for some reason, or just want to dive deeper and focus in on some of the specific health benefits from the blend, there are a few other great products to consider (or even combine!).

1.) Reishi - for stress, calming and sleep.

Known by ancient herbalists as the 'mushroom of immortality', reishi is probably famous as a sleep tonic, helping to relax the nervous system and aiding the body in 'winding down' for deeper and more restful sleep. It's also great for immune support and healthy skin, among many other things.

2.) Eucommia Bark - for kidney support, joints & ligaments.

As a key component of the Jing blend, eucommia is most well known for helping restore joints, tendons ligaments and bones. from a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, eucommia helps produce 'yang jing' which is associated with strength, stamina and power.

3.) Cordyceps CS-4 - for energy and endurance.

Cordyceps is a key jing mushroom in traditional Taoist herb lore, responsible for oxygenating the blood and cultivating energy. This is a great one for athletes looking for better performance, or anyone just looking to improve their energy levels.
