A Brilliant Mushroom for Healthier Immunity, Digestion & Skin

Wild Chaga is a curious fungus that’s been historically revered in Asia (and now worldwide), primarily due to its immune-boosting and anti-ageing properties. Scientifically proven to contain some of the highest levels of antioxidants of any natural substance on earth - Chaga is a powerful natural protector.

Colloquially termed the “Black Mass” due to its appearance, it’s a powerful 'adaptogen' with super high levels of melanin that also helps manage stress, fight fatigue and aid digestion.

SuperFeast Chaga is strictly sourced from naturally growing birch tree 'conks' at the correct time for the most potent and pure harvest. This is a daily go-to medicinal mushroom in my preventative health routines.

SuperFeast Chaga Mushroom REVIEW BY DARCY - BIRCHER BAR FOUNDER & OWNER:

    What I Like About It:

Immune-Boosting & Fatigue Reducing - Chaga is a potent adaptogenic immune herb that has been used as a traditional medicine throughout Europe, China, and Canada for millennia. It's typically used to help fight pathogens, raise the bodies natural defences and aid with fatigue and stress management.

I'm quite lucky and generally don’t have any issues with immunity to address, but that being said, I do take Chaga daily (either straight or in Mason's Mushrooms) and haven't been sick in a long time! I also work long hours at times and am also very active outside of this, so can fall prey to fatigue and stress. I don't experience a 'caffeine-style' lift from Chaga, but definitely notice more stamina and endurance throughout a long day or a tough workout.

It Goes Down Smooth – With a slightly sweet and bitter taste, Chaga mushroom powder blends nicely with everything from Chaga tea, coffee and smoothies through to savoury dishes like stir-frys and miso soup.

Company Values and Service – I’ve worked closely with SuperFeast for years and they always impress me with their wealth of holistic knowledge of tonic herbs and mushrooms, diligent and ethical business practices, and a strong sense of what customers need in natural medicine and experience.

Completely family-owned and operated, their customer service is second to none, with free shipping, returns and secure payments (also with AfterPay) as standard. They work hard to make you feel like you are a part of the family.

    What You Need To Consider:

Chaga is widely regarded as very safe, however, as with nearly every substance, there can be adverse effects for some people. I haven’t experienced any issues personally but it has been found to interact negatively with some medications - notably anti-diabetes or blood-thinning medications. As always, consult your doctor or GP before taking Chaga mushroom powder.

    In Summary

    PROS

    • Immune system benefits
    • Noticeable increase in stamina and endurance

    What is Chaga Mushroom?

Chaga mushroom as we use it technically isn’t a mushroom - it's a woody mass of birch tree bark, intergrown with Chaga mycelium! This symbiotic growth forms large black nodules on the side of Birch trees, extracting nutrients from the tree while simultaneously helping heal it in times of illness. For Chaga to reach its full medicinal potential it must be harvested after 8-to-10 years of growth.

Chemically speaking - Chaga is a potent blend of adaptogenic betulinic acid, cancer-fighting beta-glucans, revitalizing antioxidants and skin-protecting melanin. It also has a slew of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and has 19-out-of-the-20 amino acids the body uses to synthesize protein.

Chaga is truly a fascinating tonic herb, known to be the most adaptogenic and antioxidant-rich substance on earth. What’s even more astounding - a third of its DNA structure is more human than it is plant.

It also goes by a bunch of really quirky names that are fun to use like - black mass, clinker polypore, cinder conk and my personal favourite “the sterile conk trunk rot.”

    Health Benefits of Chaga:

Chaga is used across the world for a wide range of health benefits. It has been studied in nearly many different clinical trials with western medicine supporting many of the claims coming from thousands of years of use within traditional cultures across the globe.

To briefly outline some of the most commonly recognised and researched benefits:

    • Helps cultivate a robust immune system
    • A potent anti-inflammatory
    • Helps with digestion and gut issues
    • Helps with more vibrant skin, hair and nails
    • Can regulate blood sugar levels
    • Helps alleviate stress and fatigue
    • Improves physical performance, endurance and stamina
    • Helps slow the ageing process

Let’s dive in deeper on some of the most evidence-backed benefits below.

    1.) Slowing The Ageing Process:

Chaga is the best natural source of superoxide dismutase (SOD) - also known as 'the longevity enzyme'. Chaga contains more SOD than barley grass, seaweed and even many essential oils. SOD occurs naturally in humans but declines with age, especially after age 30.

SOD helps repair cells and reduce cellular damage caused by free radicals, helping slow the ageing process.

    2.) Supports The Immune System:

Chaga promotes the formation and production of white blood cells which are your bodies first line of defence to fight off harmful bacteria or viruses in the body.

Compounds such as beta-glucans and polysaccharides found in Chaga activate various protective reactions in the body’s immunological and inflammatory systems. These compounds increase the activity of various disease killing cells to fight against infections more efficiently and counterattack diseases more effectively. They recognize and help 'label' potentially problematic cells which lets the immune system respond better against threats.

    3.) Digestive Benefits

Chaga has powerful anti-inflammatory effects on the stomach and intestines which helps with a number of stomach issues such as IBS and gastric ulcers. Chaga also stimulates the liver to produce digestive bile that breaks down fats and eases the load on the digestive tract.

Chaga has a variety of nutrients that the body uses for digestion such as manganese, thiamin and fibre to speed up the digestion process and improve nutrient absorption. The betulinic acid and phytosterols in Chaga can also help the body purge itself of parasitic worms in the digestive system, and fight against some types of bacteria hidden in the stomach.

    4.) Vibrant Skin

Chaga delivers a variety of benefits for better looking, healthier skin. Packed with melanin, betulinic acid & beta-glucans - these compounds all combine to address many common skin conditions, regenerate skin cells and add pigment to the skin to help protect it from harmful UV rays.

Chaga’s anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting qualities also protect the skin from a number of infections, diseases, rashes, acne, and eczema.

    How to Take Chaga:

As previously mentioned Chaga’s flavour is both slightly bitter and sweet, so it blends nicely into a strong coffee, or a number of different teas such as chamomile, green tea or black tea.

My favourite way to take it as I'm running out the door is by simply by stirring in 1 tsp with hot water, a dash of high-quality manuka honey and a spritz of lemon juice for a quick Chaga tonic herb tea. The Jing Blend is a great add-in here for a flavour compliment and a stack of added health benefits.

Dosage is a common question regarding medicinal mushrooms and tonic herbs. My recommendation is to start with ¼ to ½ tsp daily for a week or two, and then work your way up to at least 1 tsp per day as your body adjusts.

When asked about dosage, the SuperFeast team themselves have said:

“If you are feeling good, we suggest to build up to a nice, heaped teaspoon per day. We find this is generally a good sweet spot for most individuals. We love providing our herbs in a powdered extract, it means you have full control over the dose, it allows you to experiment with the herb and really forge your own unique relationship with the herbs. As always, we suggest to trust your body; it will tell you if you want more or less.”
