What is Melrose Cod Liver Oil?

Melrose Cod Liver Oil is derived from wild Icelandic cod sourced from the pristine waters of the northern Atlantic.

Unlike standard fish oils, cod liver oil naturally contains vitamins A and D alongside omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. These essential nutrients cannot be produced by the body and must be obtained through diet.

Vitamin A plays a critical role in maintaining healthy eyesight and supporting skin health, while vitamin D assists calcium absorption for bone health and supports immune system function.

The omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA contribute to cardiovascular health, brain function, and overall wellbeing.

Formulated and bottled in Australia, this premium oil is mildly flavoured with orange for a pleasant taste without any fishy aftertaste.

Each 5ml dose contains:

Cod liver oil - The base oil providing omega-3 fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins in their natural form.

EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid) - Supports cardiovascular health, helps reduce inflammation, and promotes healthy blood flow.

DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid) - Essential for brain function, cognitive health, and supports healthy eye development and function.

Retinyl palmitate (Vitamin A) - Supports healthy vision, skin integrity, and immune function.

Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) - Aids calcium absorption for bone health, supports immune function, and promotes healthy muscle function.

Adults - Take 1 teaspoon (5mL) daily.

Children 2 to 12 years - Take 2.5mL daily or as directed by your healthcare practitioner.

Best consumed with food to avoid any aftertaste.

If symptoms persist, talk to your health professional.

Nutrients and vitamins can only be of assistance if dietary intake
is inadequate.

If you are pregnant, or considering becoming pregnant,
do not take vitamin A supplements without consulting your
doctor or pharmacist.

The recommended daily amount of vitamin A from all
sources is 700 micrograms retinol equivalents for women
and 900 micrograms retinol equivalents for men. When taken in
excess of 3000 micrograms retinol equivalents, vitamin A can
cause birth defects.

Contains fish and sulfites.

Formulated and packaged in Australia.

"What sets this cod liver oil apart is the combination of omega-3s with naturally occurring vitamins A and D — not synthetic additions, but compounds that occur together in nature for good reason. The vitamin A supports eye health and immunity, the D3 addresses the deficiency most Australians don't know they have, and the EPA/DHA levels are genuinely therapeutic. Sourced from wild Icelandic cod and third-party tested for heavy metals this is the one I'd reach for."

Frequently asked question

Yes, cod liver oil can be taken daily as part of a long-term health routine. However, because it contains vitamin A, it is important not to exceed the recommended dose. Excessive vitamin A intake over time can accumulate in the body. Those taking other vitamin A supplements or eating liver regularly should monitor their total intake. Consult your healthcare professional if unsure about combining with other supplements.

Children aged 2 to 12 years can take 2.5mL daily or as directed by a healthcare practitioner. The omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA support brain development and cognitive function in growing children, while vitamin D supports bone development. Not suitable for children under 2 years without medical advice.

Melrose Cod Liver Oil is independently third-party tested for heavy metals and environmental toxins. The oil is sourced from wild Icelandic cod from the pristine northern Atlantic waters and is Friend of the Sea certified for sustainability. Each batch undergoes rigorous quality testing before bottling in Australia.

The key difference is that cod liver oil naturally contains vitamins A and D alongside omega-3 fatty acids, whereas regular fish oil typically only provides EPA and DHA. This makes cod liver oil a multi-nutrient supplement supporting eye health, immune function, and bone health in addition to cardiovascular benefits. Regular fish oil may provide higher concentrations of omega-3s but lacks the fat-soluble vitamins.
