A Powerful Anti-Bacterial, Anti-Viral, & Anti-Inflammatory

Long recognised for its value and powerful health benefits across the orient, Shiitake mushroom (Lentinula edodes) has been both foraged and cultivated in ancient China and Japan for centuries.

Shiitake was actually cultivated on logs in many ancient Japanese villages to attract Buddhist monks and increase the villages trade prospects and prestige!

In the modern world, it is widely-known and used as a culinary mushroom due to its delicious umami flavour, but it also brings a staggering amount of potent healing properties to the table.

Referred to as the 'elixir of life' by many Japanese elders, it is commonly used for its anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory compounds, as well as its immune-boosting properties, ability to help with bone density and promote a strong heart.

SuperFeast Shiitake mushroom is sustainably grown and sourced Di Tao in the most natural conditions and environment possible. Containing nothing more than semi-wild shiitake mushroom fruiting body that's ground down, dual extracted and concentrated 10:1, it is easily one of the best quality mushroom powder extracts commercially available.

SuperFeast Shiitake Mushroom REVIEW BY DARCY - BIRCHER BAR FOUNDER & OWNER:

    What I Like About It:

Nutrition, Immunity & Inflammation - This incredible mushroom is exceptionally nutritionally dense, offering up large amounts of protein, fibre and essential fatty acids, as well as many crucial minerals & vitamins such as B1, B2, B12, C, D, and E.

Aside from ticking so many nutritional boxes, it also boasts super high levels of Beta-glucans ( or β-glucans) and polysaccharides which have been indicated to help boost immunity, repair damaged cells and lower inflammation. This is beneficial for everyone, but particularly for anyone who is very active or has low immunity.

All in all, it's like taking a mushroom multi-vitamin!

My Favourite Mushroom For Food - As probably the most famous culinary medicinal mushroom in the world, it's no surprise that it is the perfect mushroom powder to cook with. This one works brilliantly in anything you'd use vegetable stock for (soups, pasta, stir-fry, stew etc.), adding endless flavour and numerous benefits.

Company Values and Service – Family-owned and operated, SuperFeast is widely regarded as one of the best Australian producers of mushroom extracts and herbs on the market. Operating with impeccable values, ethics and principles to produce verified clean, potent and sustainable Di Tao extracts - I've yet to find a product from them I don't benefit from.

    What You Need To Consider:

Shiitake is widely regarded as very safe, however, there have been a very small number of minor symptoms reported such as skin rashes and upset stomachs. As always, consult your medical practitioner, doctor or GP before taking. Also - this isn't an organic shiitake mushroom powder, however, their Di Tao sourcing principles challenge the idea of organic in this context which is worth looking further into. Organic is not always as it seems!

    In Summary

    PROS

    • Highly nutritious, immune-boosting and a potent anti-inflammatory
    • One of the best culinary mushrooms on the planet. Great for cooking.
    • Excellent general supplement for overall well-being and longevity
    • A super high-quality product from an excellent company

    CONS

    • Very isolated reports of minor side effects

    What is Shiitake Mushroom?

As you've probably gathered by now, it is a light to dark brown colour 'wide-cap fungus' that grows naturally on the decaying logs of certain trees throughout the world, but primarily within South-East Asia.

Coming from a Japanese word, the prefix shii- refers to the type of tree the mushroom grows on, and the suffix -take, meaning 'fruit of the mushroom'.  Other names you'll find for it include "sawtooth oak mushroom", "black forest mushroom", "black mushroom", "golden oak mushroom", or "oakwood mushroom".

    Health Benefits of Shiitake Mushroom:

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shiitake is primarily used to boost general health, increase longevity and improve circulation. Modern science has pinpointed a number of specific compounds (namely beta-glucans and polysaccharides) that help aid the immune system while also providing anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects.

Beta-glucans (as well as other bioactive compounds such as eritadenine & sterols) are indicated to help with issues like hypertension & cholesterol, even displaying anti-cancer effects.

To briefly summarise some of the most commonly recognised and well-researched benefits:

    • Immune-boosting benefits
    • Can help the body adapt to stress
    • Can help improves blood circulation
    • Can help reduce blood pressure
    • Anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties
    • May assist with bone strength
    • Anti-ageing properties
    • Promotes better heart function

    How to Use Shiitake Extract:

As previously mentioned the flavour profile is distinctly 'umami' (savoury) and works perfectly in broths, stews, stir-fry, pasta and basically any other savoury dish.

Try adding some miso, shallots and a dash of tamari and you have yourself a super quick and nourishing miso.

As for dosage, start out with ¼ to ½ tsp daily and work up to 1 tsp per day from there, pending it sits right with you of course.

    FAQs:

    What is a medicinal mushroom?:

Medicinal mushrooms are a special type of fungi that are scientifically shown to have a wide range of benefits in the human body. From bringing balance and restoration to your immune system, boosting oxygen flow and enhancing your creative and mental acumen to regulating your blood sugar, reducing your stress levels and improving your quality of sleep, there’s almost nothing medicinal fungi can’t do.

Check out this video of SuperFeast founder Mason Taylor to learn more!

How should I store my herbs?:

To keep your herbs super fresh, store them in a cool dry place like a kitchen pantry to stop them from clumping. Each jar or bag contains a desiccant (a little white pillow) to absorb moisture. Bulk bags can also be stored in a sealed container in the freezer.

Can I mix my herbs together?:

Absolutely! Each SuperFeast tonic herb has different benefits and ways in which they aid the body and so, in this regard, they are well suited to be taken in combinations that align with your individual needs.
